Early Life of Daniel Dumile

Dumile was born in London on July 13, 1971, the son of a Trinidadian mother and Zimbabwean father. According to Dumile, he was conceived in the United States, and happened to be born in London because his mother was visiting family. As a child, Dumile moved with his family to Long Island, New York; he grew up in Long Beach, New York. He said he had no memory of his London childhood and his parents had no affiliation with British culture. However, he remained a British citizen, never gaining American citizenship.

Timeline

1988-1997

Using the alias Zev Love X, Dumile formed the group KMD, alongside Rodan who was later replaced by Onyx the Birthstone Kid.
In 1993, just before the release of KMD's album, Black Bastards, Subrock was hit by a car while crossing the Interstate 495.
After the death of his brother, Dumile retreated from the music scene

1998-2001

Dumile started freestyling at open-mic events in Manhattan covering his face while perfoming.
He had taken on a new identity, MF DOOM, with a mask similar to Supervillain Victor von Doom, AKA, Dr. Doom.
In 1999, Dumile released his first full length project, Operation Doomsday
In 2001, Dumile started releasing Special Herbs, a series of instrumentals which he felt were too good to be rhymed on.

2002–2004

In 2003, Dumile released Take Me To Your Leader under a new alias, King Geedorah, named after the three headed dragon.
Later in 2003, he released Vaudeville Villain under another alias, Viktor Vaughn, another play on Dr. Doom's name.
In 2004, Dumile released Madvillainy alongside producer Madlib under group name Madvillan.
Later in 2004, the second album under the MF DOOM alias, Mm..Food, a complex album that grows more coherent on repeat listening.
In 2009, Dumile released Born Like This, an album named after the first line of the poem "Dinausaria, We" by Charles Bukowski.
